Understanding All Children: The Interconnection of Executive Function and Implicit Bias.

Learning Objective:

Participants will understand how executive function affects school and life success.
Participants will relate executive function skills to brain development.
Participants will understand the concept of implicit bias.

Presentation Outline:

This session will explore social and emotional competencies and executive function skills that young children need to manage their thoughts, actions, and emotions.  It will look at the tools needed to help learners master these skills. Participants will learn about the relationship between executive function skills and brain development. They’ll explore inquiry questions concerning the possible effects of race, culture, and implicit bias on how children are treated and disciplined.
